At what point in my pregnancy should I attend DFB™ classes?
You can begin taking Dancing For Birth™ class right away. The sooner you begin attending the better, to support your prenatal fitness, your birth learning and planning, and your baby’s fetal position. You can attend when you are planning to become pregnant, during all three trimesters, and once your baby is born too.
My baby is due any day now, is it too late for me to come to DFB™ classes?
It’s not too late. Every class is filled with information and techniques you’ll utilize at your birth, so get to as many classes as you can before your big day!
I’m not yet pregnant, but I’m planning to be, can I attend?

What should I wear to DFB™ class?
Wear clothes that don’t inhibit your freedom of movement. Yoga or athletic style tops and leggings or t-shirts and shorts work well. Throw a flowy skirt on, if you want a little something extra. Coin hip scarves are fun and accentuate your movement. We dance with bare feet, so you don’t need any special footwear.
Can my partner come with me to DFB™ class?
Yes! We have Partner Days so that your partner can come with you and share in the learning and fun. You and your partner could be a couple, friends, family, birth parent and adoptive parent or surrogate and intended parent. We recommend bringing the same person to each partner day. Partner Days typically occur every four weeks.
How many weeks is DFB™ class?
DFB™ class doesn't have a start and end date. It takes place weekly to support your entire pregnancy. The benefits for your health, wellbeing, and birth begin at your first class and increase over time. Think of it as your new pregnancy lifestyle class.
I’m having pregnancy related pelvic dysfunction, can DFB™ class help me?
Yes! The movements you’ll learn in class strengthen and stabilize your pelvis, which helps to resolve the dysfunction and eliminate the pain.
My baby is breech. Can DFB™ classes help me?
Yes! In DFB™ class you'll learn how to do The Larson Technique, to change baby's position to head-down.
I’m pregnant with multiple babies, is this class right for me?
Yes! DFB™ moves are specifically created for pregnancy. You'll listen to your body and take it at your own pace. Always consult with your care provider if you have any concerns.
I want a VBAC, can Dancing For Birth™ class help me?
If you’re planning to have a VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean), Dancing For Birth™ class helps by teaching you how to activate your birth instincts, increase the flow of your birth hormones, move your baby into optimal position, and open your pelvis fully.
Is Dancing For Birth™ a natural birth class?
Dancing For Birth™ class is beneficial whether you’re planning a natural, unmedicated birth or are planning to use medication. You’ll learn natural comfort measures and our holistic childbirth method. In a recent study, 77% of Dancing For Birth™ participants gave birth without an epidural. 29% is the United States average birth without epidural rate, for comparison.
Will my health insurance reimburse me for Dancing For Birth™ class?
Many health insurance companies offer partial or full reimbursement for prenatal and postnatal classes such as fitness, childbirth education, birthing, breastfeeding/lactation, and parenting/newborn care. Check with your insurance company to inquire about what they cover, including the relevant CPT or ICD codes.
Can I use my Health Savings Account for Dancing For Birth™ class?
Birthing classes are partially eligible for reimbursement with a flexible spending account (FSA), health savings account (HSA) or a health reimbursement arrangement (HRA). Check with your benefits administrator for details.
I just had my baby. How soon can I attend Dancing For Birth™ class?
You can come to class right away if that feels right to you. Communicate with your care provider if you’re unsure. During your first class postpartum you can rest, glow, be celebrated, introduce your baby, and share your birth story. How soon you begin dancing will depend on how you feel. Taking it at your own pace is encouraged.
I heard I can bring my baby to Dancing For Birth™ class, is that right?
Yes! Bring your baby and a sling or wrap, so you can wear your baby during class. Babies love the moves and being close to you, and it helps them develop their balance and coordination.
Will I learn about baby care in DFB™ class?
Yes! We help you discover your parenting instincts as well as offer practical information for your baby’s age and stage.

Stress and low levels of social support are some of the risk factors for postpartum depression. In Dancing For Birth™ class you’ll gain social support as well as boost your happy hormones and decrease your stress levels. Dance is well known to positively affect mood and depression. A recent study showed that 12 weeks of dance class decreases depression levels.

I don’t have experience dancing – can I attend a DFB™ Training?
Yes! Experienced and inexperienced dancers are equally welcome. If you feel like you're dance challenged, no worries. The moves are simple and the training is only partly dancing.
I’m not yet a birth professional. Can I attend a Dancing For Birth™ Professional Training?
Yes! The training is geared for birth, health and wellness professionals, whether aspiring or experienced. This training is a great way to enter these fields.
Will there be a replay?
Yes! A replay is available for our virtual Dancing For Birth™ Professional Training. These recordings are available for three months after the last day of training.
Can I earn Contact Hours or CEUs (continuing education units) by attending DFB™ Professional Training?
Yes! Dancing For Birth™ is an approved provider of continuing education for professionals who work with pregnant and new families. Most doula, midwife, nurse, and childbirth educator organizations accept our contact hours. They are provided at no additional cost. This nursing continuing professional development activity has been approved by the Oregon Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
How can DFB™ techniques help me serve my pregnant/postpartum clients better?
Our signature moves and techniques are designed to shorten labor, increase comfort, reduce the need for intervention, resolve fetal malposition, increase satisfaction, and support breastfeeding and bonding. You can utilize these techniques immediately after the training to support your pregnant and postpartum clients.
My clients are using DFB™ techniques during their births with great results. How can I learn these techniques to best support them?
By attending our Level 1 training, you will learn many of our labor and birth techniques, and be able to utilize them during your clients/patients births to help them have shorter labors, increased comfort, fewer complications, and increased birth satisfaction. You will also be listed on our Birth Pro Locator for six months. Optionally, continue on to our Level 2 training.
How do I become a Certified DFB™ Instructor?
You'll first attend our Level 1 and Level 2 Trainings and then complete a self-guided process. The certification process is further explained here.

Is this a doula training?
No. Dancing For Birth™ Professional Training is a continuing education training for doulas and other birth, health, and wellness professionals such as midwives, nurses and childbirth educators. It is also a training for people who want to enter the fields of birth or wellness. Our training is for the purpose of learning the Dancing For Birth™ childbirth method, using it to assist families during labor, and optionally, becoming a Certified Dancing For Birth™ Instructor. Dancing For Birth™ contact hours are accepted by many doula organizations towards doula re-certification. To get trained and certified to become a doula, you’ll need to research doula organizations and find a doula training.
Can you invoice my employer for my registration at this training?
Yes. Please e-mail us to make this request, providing your name and desired training date, and the company’s name, physical address, and person’s name and e-mail address (to send the invoice). Once your employer has paid on your behalf, we will e-mail you details on how to complete your registration.
Will my employer reimburse me for Dancing For Birth™ training?
It is possible that your employer may reimburse you for attending Dancing For Birth™ Professional Training, especially if you work with pregnant or postpartum individuals. You may use our reimbursement template to submit your request to your employer.
Do you offer payment plans?
Yes. We offer a three month payment plan to be paid in full by the week prior to your desired training. To request it, pleasee-mail us and let us know which training date you’d like to register for.
Do you offer Scholarships?
