Nyepi, also known as the Balinese Day of Silence, is a unique celebration. It marks the start of the Balinese New Year and involves a full 24 hours of quitude. Nearby Ubud is Tirta Empul, a Balinese water temple. "Tirta Empul" translates to "holy spring," which is fitting, as the temple is built around a natural spring. With its multiple pools, shrines, and scenic location, Tirta Empul is a beautiful cultural site worth visiting.
Goa Gajah - Elephant Cave
Goa Gajah, also known as the Elephant Cave, is a an ancient wonder. Carved from the rock face in the 9th century, it served as a sanctuary. The name may have come from a long-gone elephant statue inside the cave. Visitors are greeted by a menacing carved face forming the cave entrance, believed to ward off evil spirits. The surrounding area offers serene gardens, temples and water features, making Goa Gajah a captivating place to visit.
Rice Terraces
Bali's rice terraces are a breathtaking display of nature and human ingenuity. Cascading down emerald slopes, these sculpted fields have been nurtured by the Balinese for centuries. The subak irrigation system, a UNESCO-recognized tradition, ensures water flows through the terraces, creating a mesmerizing patchwork.
